Susan Hintz’s journey at Riverview Health began after a serious fall left her with a fractured vertebra, requiring complex fusion surgery at a different hospital. Following her procedure, she and her family embarked on a search for the best rehabilitation facility in the area. Susan ultimately chose Riverview Health for a few key reasons: a positive prior experience at one of Riverview’s ER and Urgent Care locations, and the convenient proximity to her home, which would be crucial for her outpatient care.
From the moment she arrived, Susan felt a profound sense of care. She highlighted the collaborative spirit of the staff, noting the thoughtful and detailed intake process led by her patient navigator, who helped her understand what to expect during her stay.
However, a truly standout experience for Susan was her daily visits from Dr. Miller. She was deeply impressed that he personally checked on his patients every morning, taking their pulse and simply asking how they were doing.
“The team consists of a group of caring, collaborative people who are technically very competent and extremely passionate. That combination is amazing,” said Susan. “Each day I’ve been here, I’ve gotten stronger and better. The staff was willing to do whatever it took so that I would learn what I needed to do and have the support I needed to do it.”
Susan’s story is filled with small moments that made a big difference, from the hospital staff washing her laundry to the constant check-ins from her care team. She credits her remarkable recovery to the combination of her own motivation and the compassionate, competent professionals at Riverview Health.
“Dr. Miller, Mike, Andy, Jennifer, Kinsey, Brandee, Kate, Lauren, Elaine, Brittney... those are just a few members of the incredible team I had the privilege of working with. I got to know them, and they got to know me,” stated Susan. “It’s all about building relationships and trust. If you have trust in your care team, you can do anything. And now I get to go home.”
When asked if she would recommend us to her family and friends, her response was immediate: “I already have.”
At Riverview Health, we are honored to be part of our patients’ journeys to recovery and proud that Susan’s experience reflects our mission of improving and preserving the health and well-being of those we serve.
