Diagnose & Manage Your ADHD at Riverview Health in Noblesville, IN

Do you as an adult have trouble keeping things organized or completing tasks before getting distracted? In some cases, these symptoms may be linked to a condition known as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. If you suspect you have ADHD, see a primary care physician for diagnosis and treatment of ADHD at Riverview Health in Noblesville, IN and surrounding areas.

What is ADHD?

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that begins in childhood and can continue into adulthood. Some people do not recognize or receive a diagnosis until they are adults.

There are three forms of ADHD:

  • Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive
  • Predominantly inattention
  • Combination of hyperactive-impulsive and inattention

Adults with predominantly inattention may appear calm on the outside while struggling internally to stay focused, organized, or on track. Whereas hyperactive-impulsivity tends to be more noticeable because of increased movement and talking.

ADHD Symptoms in Adults

A pattern of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity is the main sign of ADHD, but this condition can be demonstrated very differently.

Many adults don’t know they have ADHD, but can trace symptoms back to childhood. ADHD symptoms in adults can include:

  • Difficulty concentrating or easily distracted
  • Fidgeting
  • Losing or misplacing things often
  • Problems at work, such as unproductivity, not getting along with coworkers or often losing their job
  • Poor driving record
  • Struggling to stay in a good mood or losing temper
  • Talking too much or interrupting during conversations
  • Trouble relaxing
  • Trouble remembering appointments

Find the Right ADHD Treatment for You with a Primary Care Doctor

No matter your age, there are several treatment options for people with ADHD. Medication is a common treatment, which may involve stimulants like amphetamine or methylphenidate.
