About 2022 during a walk in the neighborhood I tore my left knee meniscus on an uneven portion of the pavement. I did nothing at that time other than icing it, had an ortho surgeon look at it, and received a cortisone shot. I have always had slight knocked knees but by 2024 due to compensating for the left knee, my right knee started to cave in, creating a valgus knee. At 70+ years, and after my son, an ortho surgical tech, urged me to have knee replacement surgery. I agreed, as I had just finished a strenuous European vacation with lots of stairs and uneven walkways. At his suggestion, I contacted Dr. Malin. I had my right knee in December 2024, and the left knee in January 2025. Probably due to overcompensation, the right patella needed to be resurfaced in the spring 2024.
The staff, physician assistant and Dr. Malin, were all very friendly, professional, courteous, warm and caring. Dr. Malin, Dr. Jen Burch PA and Elizabeth are exceptional, both with concern about my improvement and assistance on a pending billing issue.
Overall, the quality of the environment and care at the hospital, post-op, was excellent.
The recovery period was not as painful or uncomfortable as I was up and about without assistance within two days. As I am about a year out, my knees are aligned, and I am walking comfortably and well. There is some stiffness in both, noticeable if I miss stretching, but that will pass in time. I am looking forward to more European vacations, hiking, and being active again with my Grandchildren.
